Keep Going…..
The Lakota Educational Initiatives, through the contributions of The LAKOTA Sioux Indian Outreach, Inc. and The JOHN AROUND HIM Memorial Scholarship, offer support in the areas of literacy and education for Lakota children, pre-school and K-12, on ROSEBUD and PINE RIDGE Reservations in South Dakota. Our intent is to help provide the tools to nurture and reinforce the students sense of self which validates their identity with an eye toward the preservation of the Lakota language and culture. The future of the Lakota Nation is in their hands.
Stand and face the wind.....
“...We have to assume our responsibilities as power, as individuals, as spirit, as people...
We ARE the people. We have the potential for power. We must not fool ourselves. We must not mislead ourselves. It takes more than good intentions. It takes commitment. It takes recognizing that at some point in our lives we are going to have to decide that we have a way of life that we follow, and we are going to have to live that way of life...That is the only solution there is for us.” John Trudell
The goals for the Lakota Educational Initiatives are quite simple and best expressed by the philosophies of Little Wound (Taopi Cikala) and Chief Sitting Bull: "Let's put our minds together and see what we can do for our children" (Little Wound was one of the Oglala Sioux chiefs who believed education was the answer to a better future for his people.)
